The Aquatic Ape Hypothesis

The Aquatic Ape Hypothesis is a theory that suggests human ancestors may have gone through a semi-aquatic stage, which significantly influenced our evolutionary development. Proposed by marine biologist Alister Hardy and later popularized by writer Elaine Morgan, this hypothesis posits that some of the unique traits humans possess, such as bipedalism, hairlessness, and an unusually large brain, could have been adaptations to a partially aquatic environment. Proponents argue that activities like wading or diving for aquatic foods could explain these adaptations better than the traditional savannah-based theories of human evolution.
